Madeline wax brushes are made in Canada by a company that has been handcrafting brushes for well over 100 years. Great care has been put into the design and production of Madeline, and we’ve made sure to use the best materials possible.
Madeline’s bristles are made with the highest quality 100% natural white bristle. Brushes are glued with deep set epoxy, and the long, full bristles are firm yet flexible for the smooth application of any furniture wax. The tapered hardwood handle is comfortable to hold for any size hand, big or small. The beautiful steel ferrule is hand-nailed, and is solvent and rust proof.
Who is Madeline?
To add a touch of fun and feminine flair to our wax brush, we named her Madeline — a name which rings of style and sophistication, but also makes you think of a woman who loves her home, and likes surrounding herself with pieces that are unique and original. We also like that it’s widely used as a French and English name, bringing together the European traditions of painting and waxing furniture, and also the partnership between two companies based in Quebec and Ontario in Canada.
Madeline’s Beginnings
Madeline is the result of a collaboration between two Canadian women — Francine Wexler is the owner of Crown-Meakins, a long-established Canadian paint brush maker based in Montreal, Quebec. Katrina Barclay is the owner of Malenka Originals and stockist for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint in Ottawa, Ontario. They brought their separate skills together to craft a Canadian-made brush for the growing number of creative women (and men, too!) who are making their homes colourful and beautiful by upcycling, re-purposing and painting furniture.
